The main component of the naphthalene basis superplasticizer is the sodium salt of naphthalene sulfonic acid formaldehyde condensate, which is widely applied in concrete and cement.
The characteristics of sodium naphthalene sulfonate are high water reduction rate, a low impact on the concrete setting time and low air-entraining properties. Because of these features, sodium naphthalene sulfonate quickly produced and applied all over the world in the late 1970s, bringing in significant development of cement and concrete technology.
Since then, the naphthalene-based water-reducing agent has continuously made new breakouts, mainly in the following three aspects:
1. To derive a composite superplasticizer with multiple functions by compounding a superplasticizer with an early strength agent or a retarder;
2. The development of the application technology of naphthalene-based water reducers in various concretes;
3. The continuous progress in the use of industrial by-products or waste materials and various water reducers with better cost performance has been produced.
